Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Tom C — 13 Jul 2011
It's very slow, ponderous, and brutal, but it is also a hypnotic descent into madness, or are they already mad? "Valhalla Rising" is a story of men using God for their own greed and lustful desires and a meditation on quiet desperation that is at times both disgustingly brutal and beautiful (in its own way).
The film's themes are nothing new, but they are still fresh in this overlooked masterwork.
