Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Brandon M — 06 Aug 2011
This hallucinatory Viking odyssey, bathed in midnight blue and arterial red is another feather in the cap of Danish film-maker Nicolas Refn. Partly a tribute to Herzog's 'Aguirre, the Wrath of God', this movie is more of a fugue-state rumination on the medieval encounter between two continents rather than a perceivable recital that travels from a beginning to an ending.
