You can definitely see that Winding Refn was influenced by the films of Tarkovsky and Herzog and writings of Homer. This film is not for everyone, it doesn't necessarily follow a linear storyline as we simply go on a journey with a Warrior Slave.
The visuals are strong, Mads Mikklesen is good, and the film has moments of extreme violence, this is not a movie for everyone. If you want to be challenged give it a try, otherwise stay away.
