The underlying message of this film seems to be - if you're a young girl experiencing your first menstrual cycle, then be sure to wear the right earrings to avoid being the victim of vampires, incest, paedophile priests or being burnt at the stake. After that the film just gets weird !!!
However, this Czech New Wave masterpiece is absolutely enthralling in each beautifully composed shot. Mesmerising, surreal and unforgettable. Without doubt a major influence on Company of Wolves.
