Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Hugh M — 04 Dec 2017
Fifth Element meets Avatar, people complained about the narrative but I just went on the ride, it explained it just enough and introduced some mind boggling concepts, it will be like Fifth Element and be loved by cult fans for years to come it's an old comic but much of the gender role banter rings true today and the language is entirely alien to the blockbuster formula; I thought it was a technical feat and I was never bored.
Much like Avatar this movie is a holiday from our reality, it's a blue alien cocktail with a pearl in place of an olive and no one's ready for it but for the inter-dimensional western standoff scene or the sitting on hypothetical shoulders with a liquid stripper disguise or brain eating alien kings with doting maids or floating city too heavy for earths atmosphere, this whole movie felt beyond it's time, I'm really glad I had that brownie before watching it too.
