Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by K S — 13 Sep 2017
Personally I found this movie brilliant! From the lavish cinematography to the exciting plot that unfurled in front of us. It was not a difficult plot to follow unlike other science fiction movies whereby at the end of the movie you are sitting dictating your head trying to work out how the characters got from start to finish, this is the classic plot of political cover ups set in a rather exciting future. I felt the acting was actually rather spot on, Valerian is a soldier who does not understand the term "love" and Laureline is the emotionally intelligent partner who has strong feelings towards Valerian but knows full well that he does not understand it in a way that she or basically anyone else actually does. "I would die for you" responded with "that's not what I meant" shows this exact characteristic that is so well portrayed by the characters. I feel perhaps in sequels we will see a more romanticized version of the pair but as for now, I will be searching for another place to catch this movie, otherwise I will be on the pre-order list for the Blu-ray edition!
I think it would be a real shame for Luc Besson to give up now; I, and many other fans like myself would be upset with not seeing the rest of Luc's dream come to big screen! We are very pro sequels 2 and 3!
