Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Late R — 02 Jun 2018
This must have cost an absolute bloody fortune to make and you can totally see why. The visuals are stunningly creative and vibrant, full of unique details, capturing the different planets, aliens and environments in spectacular fashion making this an absolute pleasure to look at.
The action is, as expected from Besson, thrilling and kinetic. The story is where the whole thing's let down a little. I wouldn't describe the plot itself as terrible, but it's a bit silly in places, has two very uninteresting characters as its protagonists, and has no surprises to offer, with the ending being particularly predictable.
In short, watch this one for the awesome visuals and fun action, but don't expect to be blown away by the story or for the characters to be well-written and memorable.
