Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Shy A — 24 Jul 2017
The most God-awful movie I've been to in ages. Apparently, no one involved in the movie understands what a script is, much less plot, drama and suspense. The movie had none. I went for the cinematography but in order to see it you have to have your eyes open and I fell asleep multiple times because of the dead boring story, so even that didn't work out.
And am I the only one who saw a veiled anti-Semitic note in the mercenary three little characters with big noses who talked like some New York Jews do and wanted to charge everybody for every single thing? Then there were the large brown creatures with big bottoms and tiny brains.
I don't like to pan serious efforts, especially by talented people, but this movie shouldn't have passed muster. A final pique. Why did no one change the movie's name? Valerian is the name of an herbal supplement that works like a sedative.
The drug Valium is derived from it. No need to take either one before you go, because this movie will have you unconscious in no time.
