Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Chris B — 21 Jul 2017
Valerian and the city of a thousand worlds is a movie to behold. A movie that is over the top and with so many things happening you will be wondering if the writers just got a bowl full of ideas and just emptied the entire thing into this movie. This is not a bad thing. You are always on the edge of your seat, not knowing what on earth is going to happen next.
The visuals are spectacular and I recommend watching it in IMAX 3D to get the full effect. The colours are intense and the other worlds, species and battles look like they are real and like you are there, and part of me wishes that I was.
The characters Valerian and Laureline, played by Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne respectively are fun and lively characters. An amazing performance by Dane and Cara, I have seen both of these actors in other movies and the improvement in their acting was phenomenal. I especially enjoyed Cara's reactions to certain situations as if the writers hadn't told her what was going to happen until it actually did.
Rihanna may be in the poster but she really isn't a big part of the movie but I definitely didn't hate her, also an improvement on her acting career.
All in all this was a great, fun movie with a good story that kept my attention until the credits began, highly recommended.
