Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Rick T — 22 Jul 2017
Not for people that are in to leftist virtue signaling. This is an action love story, where the female accepts her feminity and is only interested in a man that will provide and care for her, which is something every blue haired feminist hates. Also, the only persistent gender bending characters are aliens, which suggests that gender-benders are alien to normal people, so get your social Marxism on and start crying.
Now, if you somehow missed out on your indoctrination and still have some common sense, you'll probably enjoy this movie. It's visually stunning, has some extremely interesting science concepts, and a story line that is complex, but without any obvious and gaping holes. That being said, if you're a little slow in the head (and if the first paragraph triggered you, then you are), then you may miss out on a few things that tie the story together.
Ultimately, the male hero is narcissistic, and he doesn't necessarily get the girl in the end, which was refreshing to see. The action sequences were pretty good, though just a tad silly at times because only the hero seemed to not be shooting blanks at the bad guys. This movie has potential to turn into the cult classic that Fifth Element is.
