Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Christopher B — 22 Jul 2017
He movie is absolutely amazing visually. It's being compared to Avatar and that's an apt comparison. Just like Avatar was an average at best story with mind blowing visuals, so is Valerian. The story itself is decent but nothing you haven't seen before. The visuals were mind blowing. The acting, however, is seriously lacking. Delevingne is the better of the two leads. DeHaan sounds and acts like a lobotomized Keanu Reeves. He's more annoying than compelling. Delevingne has a great swimsuit scene and that puts her over the top acting wise.
If you like those "turn your brain off and enjoy" movies, then this one is more than good to see. If you expect decent plot development and story, then your time is better spent in a movie that is not about an Earth ship that was sent to the stars hundreds of years ago and somehow became the hub of all reality. Still, it was worth seeing after a long day at work.
