Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Carol H — 19 Jul 2017
Visually spectacular. I just couldn't get attached to the main male character, though. Felt like watching a music video without music. The dialogue was not terribly interesting ever, so this movie would probably seem far more interesting if you mute it and play music over it. Any plot you imagine would probably be better than the actual one.
The side characters are genuinely nifty and I liked them, even if they seemed completely derailing to the point of the movie. Good editing could probably make fascinating minimovies of them.
