Review of Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008) by Deana L — 21 Apr 2009
Great insight into the iconic designer creating his last collection and a 45-year retrospective. Compared to the other designer docus I have seen, Valentino seems more confident and cares less about how the clothes will be received--all he cares is that the clothes are beautiful.
He lives his life with calm dignity, as opposed to the neurotic chaos that surrounds Marc Jacobs, for example. More personal than Lagerfeld Confidential, we get to see how his partnership has informed his career.
The appearance of so many high-wattage celebs and fashion insiders speaks to his legend, and makes for fun star sightings.
