Review of Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008) by Bradford G — 05 Oct 2009
Wonderful look at the last of the great couturiers - certainly the last who was still head of his own house. Everything you'd expect is in place - the opulence, luxury, dedication and tantrums. Would have liked to see one of his shows from start to finish in its entirety and more of his earlier work.
But this movie isn't really about that - at its heart, it's a movie about the modern world, with all its focus on profit, destroying artists and replacing them with mere designers. And in that, it's quite sad.
