Review of Valentine's Day (2010) by Ka M — 02 Sep 2011
Valentine's Day's so awful because it is based in a poorly written screenplay with lots of cliches, predictable situations and lack of depth in character development. Garry Marshall had to focus in 15 or more starring roles and it is a nobody story.
Me, as and audience, couldn't emotionally connect with anybody. Besides, most of the performances are terrible and shameful, 2 exceptions: Jamie Foxx and Julia Roberts. But the movie belongs to the dogs, they were the only ones that could be directed effectively by Marshall, the human beings look misguided.
Believe me, the rest of the cast is terribly wasted, being Shirley MacLaine's appearance the most annoying and useless of all (I'm pissed off because I really like her, definitely not here). Of course Ashton Kutcher was horrendous, Anne Hathaway - ridiculous, Jessica Alba - an extra, Taylor Lautner - as foolish as he is in the Twilight Saga, and I don't really want to continue criticizing the actors but see that it's painful watching them together in this.
.. Valentine's Day doesn't work either as a comedy or a romantic comedy, it's a mess of big proportions.
