Review of Valentine (2014) by Matt C — 10 May 2010
One of my favorite "bad" movies. There is nothing of redemable value here, the acting doesn't stick out and there is little tension or suspense leading up to the unoriginal death scenes. So why did I like it? Simply because I could tell the director and cast tried hard.
It's obvious that they wanted this film to be a new step foreward in horror movies and there's some original though that was put into this. The movie markets itself to women, something not many horror movies do.
Also the valentine theme for horror movies is a relatively fresh idea (the only other horror movie that beat this one to the punch was My Bloody Valentine). All these things show through and although this movie obviously didn't reach the level of critical success it was hoping for, the amount of effort put in to this movie to separate it from just the standard horror movie counts for something.
