Review of Vacation (2015) by Brandon W — 05 Mar 2016
Vacation is a sequel reboot to National Lampoon's Vacation that is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley is their directorial debuts, and it stars Ed Helms and Christina Applegate in a comedy film about Rusty Griswold's family going to Wally World which, of course, "hilarity" danger comes to them.
I was actually excited to see that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley do a Vacation film as I like the films they wrote like Horrible Bosses and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. So after watching it.
I haven't watched Vegas Vacation as it's the worst reviewed film from the series, but for me, Vacation is the worst film of the series that it was based on. The beginning when it shows the photos of Vacation memories, and they were actually pretty fun to watch.
Keegan-Michael Key and Charlie Day gave some amusing moments, and Chevy Chase is honestly the best part of the film from what he's got. Sadly, that's all the pros that I got from the film. The writing and the jokes are so bad and unfunny that it really doesn't have the heart and charm that John Hughes does from National Lampoon's Vacation and Christmas Vacation.
The situations that they have to go through doesn't feel realistic as the characters are very stupid and just does things, just because. The chemistry between Ed and Christina is just meh, and the brothers are annoying to watch.
Vacation is a terrible film that makes me a bit worried when Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley's next writing film is the Spider-Man reboot, but I'll try my best to keep that film on an open mind.
