Review of Vacancy (2007) by Sierra P — 20 May 2012
Very frieghtening! I was drawn in from the start, probably beause of the A-list stars familiarity and just my curiosity of what was i. Store... But it was kind of predictable that their car would break down, thus forcing them to shelter at a nearby motel and then... Dun dun dun... The movie starts to unravel from there. I enjoyed it through and through as well as the superb performances by Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson. They conveyed their sense of frieght well and portrayed a realistic atmosphere where the audience will end up rooting for the leading characters to where they can escape from the also convincingly menacing 'villains' in the movie.
Last note, reason why it scored so high for me on my list of 'good horror flicks' is that it doesn't try so hard to scare the audience with needless gore or blood like many movies today. It is convincingly scary and an effective film because of the direction, the acting and the creative ways they find to keep the audiences hearts pounding.
