Review of Vacancy (1999) by Christopher W — 08 Jul 2009
"Vacancy" is a fine example of a thriller complete with well crafted scenes, a truly horrific scenario and suspense of, dare I say, near Hitchcock standard. In a departure from their usual roles Wilson and Beckinsale display fine acting ability and their characters whilst not exaclty brimming with depth (if that is possible) are strong and complex enough to satisfy all audience members.
Director Antal creates something quite exceptional that could easily have been standard Hollywood fare. "Vacancy" will not go down as a classic as is typical of the genre but is definitely worth a watch.
The film is also refreshingly short at eighty-five minutes, eighty-five nightmarish minutes of surprisingly good quality cinema.
