Review of V/H/S/2 (2013) by Mary M W — 11 Jun 2013
I've been so fucking excited to see this, while the first one wasnt as good as I thought it would be, I still love the premise, and when I saw that this sequel was getting really good reviews from sundance and sxsw and that it was using new directors for the segments I was so hooked, I suppose its only right to breakdown by segment.
Wrap around-def the weakest story, not much happens, and the resolution is pretty lame.
Segment 1-a lot of people shit on this one, and while it is short, it still managed to scare me a good amount of times, I liked the set up of it, I would be interested to see it fleshed out more.
Segment 2-its a good concept, a movie from a zombies perspective, and a true one not like warm bodies, its got some good shots, tho not that scary per se.
Segment 3-the one everybody has been raving about, literally every review has been praising this one to the high heavens, calling it in of itself one of the best horror films of the past decade, and that its so intense and scary, well....its def the longest, practically half the movie, hence its the most developed and least rushed, it takes its time slowly building tension, and then shit starts to really go down, I loved the set up of it, and was with it for most of the crazy shit, but then it crosses a line into dare I say absurd territory, like this is just too over the top, and it prevented me from calling t great, but its still the best segment in vhs 2.
Segment 4-half comedy pretty much, with a good amount of funny scenes, but theyre near the beginning, after that it becomes full blown horror, I liked the idea, but its the worst shot of all of them, I couldnt tell what was going on it was so shaky and woozy.
Overall, a step up from the first, the directors are better, and the stories look more polished, prolly cuz they had more money, def worth checking out.
