Review of V/H/S/2 (2013) by Lovro H — 27 Jul 2015
Just as the first one, this is an anthology movie, therefore I'm reviewing each short separetely!
_Tape 49_.
Much like the first movie, 2 friends go in a house and find a bunch of vhs tapes scattered around the house and decide to watch them. I prefer this over the first movie. It's much scarier and the characters aren't as annoying. The ending is unexpected and quite shocking. 3.5/5.
_Phase I Clinical Trials_.
This short is about a guy who was in a car accident and it left him blind, but he goes on a surgery that fixes one of his eyes, but it's also a camera at the same time as this is just an experiment so the doctors need some footage. It's an interesting take on found footage I have to admit. There are a few things I found a bit too far fetched. There are many scary scenes in it and the ending is, again, brutal. 3.5/5.
_A Ride in the Park_.
This is my least favourite of all, but it's not bad. It's actually very clever. The story is about a guy who goes for a ride with his GoPro camera, but he stumbles upon a zombie and gets bitten. From there on, it's a zombie movie from the first person point of view. There are some really gruesome scenes, but what I loved the most is the ending. In the end his girlfriend calls him on the phone and we hear her talking about how he loves him and that they'll see each other soon. After the call ends, he takes a shotgun and kills himself. I thought that was quite a powerful scene. 3.5/5.
_Safe Haven_.
This is the best short in this movie! The story is about a documentary crew who want to film this one weird cult and know more about their lifestyle and everything. The cult leader takes them to their home and they start filming interviews and the scenery. There is a big turn of events and all hell breaks loose! It's brutal, shocking, frightening. The effects are amazing and the ending is very awesome. It could be almost considered as a black comedy, but it's more horror. I won't spoil anything because this has to be seen to know what I'm talking about. 5/5.
_Slumber Party Alien Abduction_.
This last short is one of the better ones. It's very cliched, though. The story is about 3 siblings whose parents go on vacation and the kids are left alone in the house. So, they invite friends and try to have some fun. But, aliens come and mess stuff up. It's interesting seeing the movie from a dog's perspective. Most of the movie there is a GoPro camera on the dog and we see a lot of it from his perspective. The scariest thing about this short is the sound. The aliens don't look that good, but the sound is excellent. 4/5.
_Overall_.
I liked it more than the first one, though there are better horrors out there. Safe Haven is the reason I like it more and I feel like Safe Haven could be turned into a full length feature film. The acting is mostly good, though a lot of the actors rely on just swearing and yelling to make them look like they're scared. It can get annoying. All in all, a good horror movie with some deffinetely great scenes in it, but its found footage style may be annoying to some.
