Review of V for Vendetta (2006) by Miguel R — 30 Jul 2015

V for Vendetta, like so many before it, paints a grim future in surroundings that are all to familiar. At its heart is an iconoclast decrying an iconoclastic (if wholly theocratic) government. Whereby the High Chancellor destroys art, the Koran and homoeroticism to control the masses, V finds his own power in the destruction of the symbol of power of the government: Parliament.

Thus adopting a metaphorical Guy Fawkes mask he sets in motion a twenty year plot to expose and decapitate the ruling party. Intense and thought-provoking, this film is full of surprises and is ultimately satisfying.

One could even argue hopeful, in a sad, strange way; if only for its redemption.
