Review of V for Vendetta (2006) by Jamie I — 25 Jun 2016
V is a phenomenally well-written character. He is well-read, intelligent, passionate and deeply scarred (not only physically but mentally as well). Hugo Weaving (I didn't know it was him until the credits rolled) is truly a god among men.
He not only physically becomes the character but you truly believe that Weaving is indeed V. And Natalie Portman (I have loved her since Leon) shines as the unwilling yet eventually essential accomplice to V.
Not only having the courage to shave off her beautiful hair but to play Evey with no less passion than she deserves should earn her at least an Oscar nod. And if the Academy forgoes her performance then they are as blind her talent as Finch is to V's identity.
I recommend this film with my whole heart and soul. You will stare in awe as I did as this comic book turned cinematic brilliance.
