Review of USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (2016) by Charles M — 01 Nov 2016
Given the magnificent, tragic arc of the real story of the Indianapolis, this movie is a travesty. The characters are never well established, the lead-up to the main action is rushed, the attack and aftermath are incoherent, and there is never a real feeling of desperation or menace.
Finally, the writing is so poor that the actors never stand a chance, and the CGI is woeful. Even the sharks are substandard, as are Nic Cage's sunglasses, which never seem to fit him properly. In all, Spielberg did a better job with the Indianapolis during Quint's five-minute telling of the tale than this whole movie does in two hours.
