Review of Ushpizin (2004) by Craig K — 20 Nov 2005
Well acted, edited, and filmed. A realistic view into the thought processes of the deeply religious and the basic issues of faith, trust, and stress they still have to contend with. Rare to see an Israeli film that does not portray religious people in a vehemently negative way.
Clearly a breakthrough for the Israeli film industry. To learn that the lead actress had never acted in film or stage in the past was startling given her strong performance. I watched secular viewers leaving the theater stunned, overwhelmed and with tears on their faces.
The power of good cinema is intense.
