Review of Used Cars (1980) by Jason B — 13 Sep 2008
Typical late 70s/early 80s comedy, i.e., not much of a plot, little guys vs. the big guys, some random nudity, a couple explosions, and a whole lot of wrecked cars. Kurt Russell is charming in his first feature-film role after escaping Disney (Elvis was a TV movie), the nudity is refreshingly un-self-conscious (when was the last time you saw any in a modern film?), and it's amusing to see regular Zemeckis players Wendi Jo Sperber and Mark McClure in small roles.
Also, the movie's a great time capsule from the era with big gas-guzzler cars, Jimmy Carter in the White House, and even a vintage Han Solo action figure on the judge's desk. All in all, a pleasant but not brilliant movie.
