Review of Us (2019) by Dharma — 12 Apr 2019
Jordan Peele's sophomore effort maintains his reputation as an auteur, a comedian turned thriller maestro. Us cements that reputation with a stupendous 'dual' performance by Lupita Nyongo and her cast mates.
Suffice to say, I can't reveal the plot too much, but it is also its strength and its biggest weakness. It is more focused on 'the concept' than the 'how'.... and many audiences will say..hey those are big, glaring 'plot holes'.
Peele is more focused on the symbolism and themes of the story, and they are quite potent. Hey, we can't have everything folks. I am grateful that at least one filmmaker attempts to be original at all times.
