Review of Us (2019) by Zumbacino — 04 Apr 2019
A wonderful example of how horror movies can be a vehicle for social commentary. With US director Jordan Peel has tapped into our anxiety for the other. Be it aliens from across the border or some other unknown phantom threat.
The movie is like a mirror and makes us look at our selves. We are our own worst enemy. So far so good. What bogs the film down a bit is the complexity of plot details to make it al work as one coherent story.
It’s still good but I preferred the more minimalistic approach Peel utilized in his previous film Get Out. Here the details are some times confusing, however these are small blemishes on a otherwise creative and smart take on the slasher genre.
