Review of Us (2019) by Edeltraud — 26 Mar 2019
Even the opening credits were a bore & it was downhill from there. Right to the end when even the fly-over is tedious (And I love me a fly-over.) Jordan Peele is the new H'Wood wunderkind, so everyone is saying nice nice, but it's purely the Emperor's New Clothes, or M.
Knight Shmalyan, IMO. I've seen better B slashers with more insightful moral messaging. This turkey dragged, I nodded off at one point, I think when there was bloody gurgling. So many scenes were just dark, as in night, murk, interior, watery dark.
That's cheap atmospherics and really boring. Worst of all, I didn't get scared once and certainly wasn't entertained as the body count rose, applying lip gloss took five minutes of screen time and the whole plot just was hammered to death.
Peele did such a great Hitchcock/social message movie in Get Out, witty, intelligent, ya can't expect that everytime, but this nonsensical gore fest was looooow.
