Review of Us (2019) by Aldrenean — 29 Mar 2019
After a very strong opening, Us goes downhill, starting with extremely cliche and cringe-worthy horror tropes like "small boy acts like dog" and "scary person screams into camera", culminating in a laughable plot with more holes than Swiss cheese.
The acting and cinematography vary between competent and great, but the script here is just embarrassing, especially after the extremely compelling Get Out. It feels like it wants to be two or three different movies, and doesn't do a good job at any of them.
If you watch and enjoy a lot of mediocre horror movies, this one is at least more original than many, but anyone who likes to think about the films they watch will walk away annoyed.
