Review of Us (2019) by Lordillquill — 25 Mar 2019
While Jordan Peele is talented, and Lupita Nyong'o's performance is exquisite, this movie is way overhyped. The children are never in peril (only white teenagers seem to be expendable in this movie) and it's one of those setups where the killer has several chances to kill the protagonists, but just toy with them long enough for them to escape with torn clothes.
I was waiting for this film to be scary, but even though some parts of the story are intriguing, when you find out the reveal of what's going on, it becomes stupid and implausible. Get Out worked because the story was simple, but well executed, as all good horror movies should be.
This is an example of Peele making up some "cool ideas" that go nowhere in the end. I hope his next movie is worth the overpriced ticket because this one definitely was not.
