Review of Us (2019) by Kingray — 22 Mar 2019

This movie was just awful. Possibly the biggest disappointment I’ve seen so far this year or in the past couple of years. Maybe biggest since The Last Jedi. This movie started off so strong at the beginner.

It was very eerie, intriguing and it was genuinely keeping me engaged. But once the “shadows” came and took seize of the house that’s when the movie started to drop in quality. The moment lupitas shadow uttered the words, “We’re America” is when I realized this movie was going to let me down.

The sound of the crowd in the movie theatre when she those words was just hilarious. It’s like everyone mentally checked out of the movie at the same exact time. How much less subtle could you get. Possibly the corniest line I’ve heard in a movie.

And the most pretentious one too. Actually this whole movie can be described in one word, pretentious. Also, the twists at the end were some of the worst twists I’ve ever seen in a movie. They make no sense whatsoever it’s absolutely bonkers how Jordan Peele thought it was okay.

At the end of the movie, the very end, Lupitas character is revealed to have been the shadow all along and the one chasing her was actually the “real” main character (I forgot Lupitas characters name) from the beginning.

Which makes no sense when you really think about it. Just all in all this movie was way too ambitious for its own good. Jordan peele has way too many ideas for this movie and should’ve kept it to what it seemed like it was going to be at the start of the movie.

Get Out was great because it didn’t try too much. This movie however just has so many ideas and none of them really click or even connect with each other in a way that really makes sense or makes for a cohesive plot.

It’s just a bad movie.
