Review of Urban Legend (1998) by Chris T — 03 Jul 2009
Urban Legend was nothing but a cheap rip-off of Scream, designed to "scare" and "entertain" thick teenagers who grew up with complete excrement repackaged as "film".
I am not exaggerating the slightest when I say that this movie looks like it was written by a 13-year-old. The plot is unoriginal, the script is cringe-worthy, the whole film is full of plot holes and above all, the entire story is implausible.
The ending was probably the most intelligence-insulting moment in the film. The best friend (who turns out to be the killer) gets shot and manages to get into the car, axe and all. While the car is driving on a high bridge, she pulls out her axe and tries to kill the protagonists. They notice, and the girl gets thrown out of the window and into the water.
First of all, if she had been shot, it would have been very difficult for her to walk. She would've been limping her way to the car, and the only way she could've gotten there was by running. How could she possibly have time to get there when she's practically bleeding to death?
Second of all, why would she be trying to kill the people while they are driving the car? Why didn't she wait until they had stopped, so it would be safer for her? It's like she wants to die!
Third, how could she possibly survive being shot and then thrown off a bridge? If the bullet hadn't killed her already, the fall surely would have. The bridge seemed to be higher than a two story building.
That infamous scene I described is just one example of the unrealistic dribble the entire film consists of. For the love of god, do yourself a favour and pass this one up.
