Review of Uptown Saturday Night (1974) by Christopher G — 12 Aug 2007
This fim, along with Poiter and Cosby as a duo, were always sentimental favourites of mine. I purchased it recently from a discount bin as many people forget that they made a trilogy of films together in the mid-seventies.
It's an enjoyable lark that perhaps never really does its concept or title justice as it mostly does not take place uptown or on Saturday or at night. Nevertheless, it hosts a wealth of cameos from great 70's actors such as Flip Wilson and a young Richard Pryor.
If you are in the mood for some retro comedy and want to remember that Cos (who is for my money the greatest standup ever)had a bit of an edge once, this is a very light but enjoyable film.
