Review of Uptown Girls (2003) by Benoit B — 02 Dec 2008
I wouldn't have thought I'd like this movie. I probably even never would have rented it, but hey, it cost me only 99 cents, so why not!
Yes, we've seen that story a million times. But for once, it feels a little more real. Not that the plot is in any way plausible, but the characters, on the other hand, are. They're not just sunshine and smile. They are 3 dimensional, with a darker side and credible issues. It is a happy ending, of course (it is the point of this type of films' formula), but the way to get to it was enjoyable, without the genre's usual tacky feel.
