Directed by Shane Carruth, this abstract film presents experimental shifts in dialogue, cinematography, and themes, one of the most important being the idea of cycles. throughout the film we see examples of different types of cycles, and this film eloquently puts those ideas in perspective.

what's absolutely astonishing about this film is the way it shows how our own consciousness can deceive us. Carruth obviously knows a thing or two about camera focus, showing the hazy texture when things are very unclear, which describes most of this film, as well as the patterns of light and shadow contrasting with the colors given in the film.

although experimental, Upstream Color provides the production value that would come of hollywood blockbusters, and the story is one that really gives perspective on repetition and recurring themes. it's a must watch for anyone who would want to see a movie that makes them think, as it is the quintessence of an "experimental movie".
