Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Zak S — 24 May 2013
I appreciate and respect this film more than I like it, and I like it more than I dislike it. It's confusing, messy, and structurally questionable, but it really makes you think. I watched it with three friends (and a cute puppy), and even though we were all a bit iffy on our understanding of what we just saw, it spurred quite the analytical discussion.
There's a lot going on- sometimes too much. What I'm sure existed in Shane Carruth's mind when he was conceiving the film didn't always translate visually. Very interesting film. It makes me want to watch Primer again and I hope Shane keeps on making films.
I'll go see them. [3/5 STARS] [052413].
