Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Kamron A — 03 Jun 2013
I bought a DVD of Upstream Color expecting great things from Shane Carruth's sophomore release, and I was not disappointed. In the first few moments of this film, every semblance of reality was fractured by the appearance of mind-controlling parasites and preternaturally-gifted children, soon thereafter followed by ever-widening circles of strange interrelationships and the (un)natural cycles of pigs, orchids, and a strange, symbolic man who sits in the woods playing a MIDI keyboard.
Perhaps this movie isn't for everyone, and that's okay-- but so many of its moments are striking and unique that it's at least worth a shot.
