Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Cole J — 04 Jun 2013
5/5 Awesomely strange and amazingly stylized. Achieves greatness because it's style is so defined and assured that we have to accept it for what it is, a visceral experience. Story is not actually too complicated but the way it's told is so abstract, it feel like a Terrence Malick film.
Ultimately it's about people dealing with forces beyond their control and questions the extent of their capabilities of controlling them. But with a movie like this it's really up to the audience to decide how they feel about it, and multiple viewings come with rewards.
It feels like it would come out of a later career because the style is defined to the point of flawlessness.
