Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Adam J — 03 Jul 2013
Shane is creating a new genre of film that is essentially birthing a more developed focus on experience. You can't watch Upstream Color (or Primer at that) and leave feeling entirely satisfied. Much like a good album or piece of artwork, the film requires a second or third encounter to really grasp its depth.
This element of "further investigation" that Carruth adds to his films is relevant and is a breath of fresh air to the scope of modern film.
