Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Kenny A — 06 Aug 2013
An abundance of themes & metaphors though it may have, I honestly struggled with the incoherent narrative structure of Upstream Color. I appreciated its ambition and envy people who may have fully grasped everything, but for me the film came off as trying to unnecessarily over-complicate itself and in turn goes beyond the realm of accessibility.
It is a beautifully shot movie with excellent chemistry between the two leads. Quite impressive that Shane Carruth is the lead actor, writer, and director of the film.
Overall, I came out of Upstream Color feeling empty even though the film's ambitions made me yearn for clarity.
