Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Dan S — 30 Aug 2013
Upstream Color is a beautiful film, incredibly stylish and bends narrative appropriately; however, the film feels too personal to the director, in my opinion, as if it is something only a few people could fully understand. It also delves frequently into a feeling of hipster pretentiousness that is backed up by lavish, Malick-style cinematography.
Either way, the film is gorgeous and appeals to lovers of experimentation, but wallows too much in odd existentialism and style for it to be particularly memorable.
