Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Kalel J — 18 Jan 2014
Perplexity through abstraction, UPSTREAM COLOR is a series of loose themes interwoven in a strange plot device. It's technique is fine-tuned - Shane Carruth delivering an auteur hold on interesting imagery and an eerily beautiful score, but the film is so loosely constructed that there is little backing any sources of interpretation.
It is a rumination on loneliness and relationships, on a woman's journey to motherhood, on the parasitic nature of humans - or none or all of this.
