Rather confused now. It is clear that the film is solidly challenging, unlike some other seemingly mind-boggling films that are anything but difficult. I should have been turned off by the Requiem for A Dream-style of editing, but the narrative (or the illusion of a narrative) in Upstream Color is too fascinating for me to actually care.
