Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Thomas S — 12 May 2013
The idea behind a Shane Carruth production is that it will never make total sense on the first viewing. But here in his second outing of total cinematic direction, its clear that Carruths productions personify abstract better than the vast majority of American cinema: make enough comprehensible for the audience to walk away satisfied, and leave the details up for individual interpretation.
Carruths style is impressively unmatchable, and I maintain so much respect for him and his work.
