Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Sara S — 15 Jan 2015
Carruth's all around effort in creating the movie made it artfully crafted by an individual. The movie was a painting, made specifically in the ideals of one person, unlike other movies stained by many brush strokes. Carruth painted Upstream Color well to his desires.
His consistency drove the movie's instrumental oddity to a true feature wordless piece of art. The beautiful cut editing of the movie all throughout gave justice to the speechlessness and the semantics in the film.
Never a movie with only a few words tell the story. Colors were wonderfully molded. The disturbing instruments were meant to be disturbing in the movie's sense.
Upstream Color is a true feature film that did not focus on the science fiction element entirely, but on the speaks of the power of love and companionship, and how they reconnect to solve a great puzzle. Moreover, it tells about our struggle in society; and how we are just being crammed into one pig farm, controlled by higher powers unknowingly, and slowly fulfill the purpose we are, but should not have been, told to do so.
