Review of Upside Down (2012) by Sean B — 12 Nov 2012
For a movie that so meticulously explains its governing dynamics in its first 10 minutes, Upside Down is incredibly diligent in breaking its own absurd rules. The movie plows clumsily through obscene plot holes and nonsensical action sequences that blatantly defy the physics introduced by the film's premise.
While the visuals are quite creative and fairly impressive, they can only be enjoyed in the few odd moments where nobody is talking. It's hard to imagine that the people responsible for the script had a firm understanding of the english language, and it's physically painful to watch the overenthusiastic lead fumble through line after awkward line.
To top it all off, the movie ends with a horrendous deus ex machina that even the actors seem baffled by. Awful movie. I'd advise you to skip it.
