Review of Upside Down (2012) by Jao R — 23 Feb 2013
Let us, for the moment, put aside the fact that plot holes abounded this film so bad even Swiss cheese had less holes. that still does not excuse the film's lack of pacing, or any presence of it whatsoever. gorgeous as the visuals might be, but if a film hasn't taken ahold of me in the first 15 minutes, it's gotta be a roller coaster ride or the film will be a bust for me.
Suffice to say, this film was a bust. a total letdown, especially after the incredible premise it had. the writer failed to develop the idea properly and we're left with a half-baked story that had so much inconsistencies it just failed to pull the audience into the world and make them believe. what's more criminal is that the film is so linear you could've just shot this in one act, and saved the audience an hour and thirty minutes of their lives. it was that bad. I would've scored it half a star but gave it 2 stars for the visuals. shame they couldn't find a better story to stick the visuals into.
