Review of Upside Down (2012) by Amanda G — 06 Jun 2013
Beautiful scenes that will make you smile while at the same time play at the fears of those who can't handle heights. Watching the relationship between two worlds so close that in places they can reach out and touch each other and yet so light years apart in societies.
I remember when I was a child looking down at a mirror and walking around pretending that I could walk on the roof. This movie brings back strong memories of my upside down world. My favorite part of the movie is that while always dancing the line between mystical and scientific all the fantastic things that happen are still meant to be based in simple sciences that can be understood by the laymen but still enjoyed but us science nuts.
I'm not a huge fan of Kirstin's acting normally but she's been getting better lately. I actually loved her with Jim sturgess and they made a very compelling as well as attractive couple. The one big thing I would suggest being very aware of is that almost all the scenes are shared between the two worlds and I got nausea a few times.
Just look down and take a deep breath in. I imagine in 3d this would be breath taking and even more magical to look at. A downside is the predictability in basically the whole thing and a been there done that basic plot line.
The idea is cool although given all the duel world movies lately not all that original. Then again I almost always know whats going to happen next so it might just be me. For me this movie is one I could watch over and over as a easy to follow scifi.
