Review of Upside Down (2012) by Akash S — 16 Jul 2013
How often have we come across two lovers who are from different worlds? Quite. But this time, they are from Two Different Worlds, Literally! When such a romance is set in such a unique backdrop, and supported by some of the most stunning visuals, you expect a good movie. But the story lacks the strength and depth the plot deserved. With a strong script, the movie could have been an epic love story and a strong political statement; it had everything else. The story lacked drama. Their Love was supposed to Defy Gravity, but it felt so uneventful; you just don't Feel the Love. Great disappointment to see such potential go to waste.
The characters were under-developed, and the circumstances seemed just too convenient. Even the talented star cast (Jim Sturgess & Kirsten Dunst) couldn't save the weak storyline; ahmm, their chemistry sucked anyway (Pardon my French). The story was just too easy and simple for my taste.
If you understood the concept well and noticed certain things, the science (physics) part of it had a lot of goofs.
Finally, it's a good watch. The spectacular imagery of the two worlds was intriguing enough to keep me hooked. Even after the movie was over, the weird feeling of dual gravity remained for a while; such was the immersing effect of the visuals.
